The women's Harris Tweed jacket clearly differs from the tweed blazer and tweed coat in terms of cut and intended use. Tweed jackets are cut shorter than coats (usually hip-length or just above) and are therefore more flexible. Unlike blazers, which usually have a more formal jacket-like appearance, tweed jackets look sportier and warmer – with details such as bellow pockets, reinforced elbow patches or corduroy trim on the collar and shoulders. The material is hand-woven Harris Tweed from the Outer Hebrides, protected by British parliamentary law since the Harris Tweed Act 1993. The Harris Tweed Authority issues the official certificate of authenticity: the Orb Mark, a crowned globe with a cross, which is sewn into every piece.
A women's Harris Tweed jacket is one of the most versatile pieces in the British country style. With a midi skirt and riding boots, it creates the classic country house look, as it has been worn in British country houses for generations; with jeans andcashmere knitwear, the jacket appears modern and casual; with slim trousers and a fine blouse, it looks understatedly elegant in the office. On colder days, the tweed jacket wears excellently under awool coator a waxed jacket as an additional layer. The combination of muted colors, functional details, and unobtrusive material quality makes it a recurring signature piece of the currently much-discussed "Old Money" and "Quiet Luxury" aesthetics – a style that Wellington of Bilmore has been producing for decades in its British-inspired country look.
