Harris Tweed is the only fabric in the world whose origin is protected by its own British Act of Parliament – the Harris Tweed Act 1993. The Harris Tweed Authority issues the official certificate of authenticity: the Orb Mark, a crowned orb with a cross, which was registered as a trademark as early as 1910 and is sewn into every piece. Every Harris Tweed suit from Wellington of Bilmore bears this seal visibly on the sleeve or in the inner lining. Unlike a classic business suit, a tweed suit is made from a denser virgin wool fabric (approx. 350–500 g/m²). It is warmer, more structured, and visibly typical of tweed. Classic designs include herringbone, Glencheck, and Prince-of-Wales in muted green, grey, and brown tones. Wellington of Bilmore produces both the classic two-piece consisting of a jacket andtrousersas well as the traditional three-piece with a matching vest.
Harris Tweed suits are the pre-destined choice for occasions in the British country style. For example, country weddings, autumn and winter weddings, equestrian events, festive receptions in country houses. A white shirt, subtle tie, and sturdy leather shoes (brogue or Oxford) go well with a blue or green tweed suit; for a festive, classic look, the three-piece with a matching vest and pocket square is worthwhile. A Harris Tweed suit is not a seasonal purchase: thanks to the robust virgin wool quality and the timeless British cut, it lasts for decades and, with good care, becomes a generational piece. This attitude, namely clothing as an investment piece instead of disposable fashion, is the core idea of the much-discussed "Old Money" and "Quiet Luxury" movement. Wellington of Bilmore has been producing these suits for decades with a fit optimized for the DACH region, also in slim and stocky sizes.
