FIND THE RIGHT SIZE

Size Chart

To ensure your clothes fit properly, the right cut and size are crucial. Especially when shopping online, you'll encounter many international brands with different clothing sizes. This is because there is no uniform international standard. Even German manufacturers tailor their measurements to specific target groups. Therefore, the basis for determining your correct size is your body measurements. On this page, we offer you simple measuring instructions. With these instructions, you can use your body measurements to determine which clothing size most closely corresponds to them and ensure that your newly acquired item of clothing fits perfectly.

Clothing sizes explained

While around 100 years ago most garments were tailor-made for each individual, today we mostly use ready-to-wear sizes, which are based on a standard measurement, but can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Thanks to this standard, it is possible to produce clothing in large quantities and thus at a lower cost. A distinction is made between a US and a European sizing system, as well as between women's and men's ready-to-wear. Some garments, such as shoes, shirts, and hats, have their own system. We mainly use European ready-to-wear sizes.

For orientation, the following formula serves the European standard: ready-to-wear size = chest circumference / 2 for men and ready-to-wear size = chest circumference / 2 – 6 for women.

  • Example calculation for men: 100 cm chest circumference / 2 = 50 ready-to-wear size
  • Example calculations for women: 88 cm chest circumference / 2 – 6 = 38 ready-to-wear size

Men

The European ready-to-wear size for men is based on the chest circumference. A distinction is made between regular sizes, short sizes (or also stout sizes) and tall sizes (or also slim sizes).

What does stout size mean?

Stout men often have the problem that garments that fit in the torso are significantly too long. This build tends to require different proportions than a regular size. Stout sizes are suitable for men with a small belly or for shorter men. The length of sleeves and back is usually shorter, while the width is significantly larger.

What does slim size mean?

Tall and slim men face the opposite problem: often the sleeve and back length are too short and one looks as if they have outgrown it. For this reason, tall sizes are proportionally longer in the back and arms, while being cut slimmer in the torso.

Women

European women's ready-to-wear sizes assume a body height between 164 cm and 170 cm, but there are also petite and tall sizes for women. The Wellington of Bilmore women's collection is, however, only available in regular sizes, but we are also happy to produce up to size 52. Even if we do not have a large stock here, we are happy to produce larger sizes for you upon request.
